RSV is a common virus that causes infections in the respiratory tract, and while it often presents mild, cold-like symptoms in adults, it can lead to severe respiratory illness in infants and older adults. Early detection through RSV testing allows for appropriate management and treatment, reducing the risk of complications. When is RSV Testing Needed? RSV testing is recommended in several scenarios, including: Symptom Evaluation: If you or your child experience symptoms such as severe cold-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, or high fever. High-Risk Groups: For infants, young children, elderly adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic respiratory conditions. Preventive Measures: During RSV season, particularly in daycare centers, schools, and nursing homes where outbreaks are common. Hospitalization Prevention: To identify RSV early in vulnerable populations to prevent severe complications and hospitalizations. What to Expect During RSV Testing At Local MD Urgent Care, we strive to make your testing experience as comfortable and efficient as possible. Here’s what you can expect during your RSV test: Consultation: Our healthcare professional will discuss your symptoms and health history to determine the appropriate test. Sample Collection: A sample will be collected from your nose or throat using a swab. Rapid Testing: The sample is analyzed using advanced diagnostic techniques to detect the presence of RSV. Results: Results are typically available quickly. Our healthcare professionals will review your results and discuss the next steps, including treatment options if you test positive for RSV. - EKG Testing | Local MD Urgent Care
Local MD offers onsite EKG testing to get a clear picture of your health. Your heart is in good hands here. Walk-ins always welcome! EKG Testing Find A Location Local MD Urgent Care offers onsite EKG testing and lab services to get a clear picture of your health. If your physician recommends an EKG, know that your heart is in good hands with the compassionate, experienced providers at Local MD! Discover why you may need an EKG, what information it provides, and more below. Our medical professionals at Local MD Urgent Care are always available to walk-in patients and those with scheduled appointments! Schedule Now What is an EKG? EKG stands for electrocardiogram (It’s also called an ECG.) An EKG measures your heart’s electrical activity. During the medical test, a technician will attach 10-12 electrodes to your chest, arms and legs. These electrodes will measure your heart rate and activity. They will stick to you with adhesive pads. The test only takes about 10 minutes - from the time your tech begins to attach the electrodes to when the recording of your heart’s activity is complete. You will be asked to lie face-up on an exam table during the test. You can do some or all of the following steps to prepare for the test, but you shouldn’t need to do much more. Avoid oily or greasy lotions. If you’re a man, you may have to shave your chest to make sure the electrodes can attach to your skin. You should also wear a shirt that’s easy to remove, such as a button-down shirt. An EKG is a safe medical procedure with little risk. You won’t receive an electrical shock, but you may have a slight rash from the electrodes. Why Would I Need An EKG? Your provider may recommend an EKG if you have complained about chest pain or heart palpitations. It may also be part of your annual wellness exam. You may need an EKG if your provider has noticed a problem during a regular exam. It will check for: Arrhythmia (Irregular Heartbeat) Heart Failure Heart Attack What Does An EKG Show? Once the EKG has been performed, it will help your doctor assess the health of your heart. Your heart rate is controlled by an electrical current, and an EKG measures how long it takes for that electrical activity to pass through your heart. It can help your doctor diagnose any abnormalities or other heart problems. During the test, your technician will record heart activity such as, but not limited to, the following: Heart Rate Heart Rhythm Blood Flow Electrolyte Abnormalities Heart Muscle Size EKG Testing At An Urgent Care Vs. Emergency Room While many people may assume that going to an emergency room for testing like an EKG is easier or faster, it is usually both more difficult, slower, and even more expensive. If you are looking for EKG testing near you, take a look at your local urgent care like Local MD. Wait times at urgent cares are typically 5x less than emergency rooms, offering a more efficient way to cross this test off of your to do list. Local MD Urgent Care accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, and we can also work with patients who may not have insurance. Visit our team of reliable medical professionals to get your EKG test done.

Trust Local MD Urgent Care for expert attention and compassionate care, ensuring your comfort and well-being during a nosebleed episode. Reserve Your Time Potential Causes of Nosebleeds Nosebleeds, also known as epistaxis, can occur due to various factors. Common causes include: Dry air, which can irritate and dry out the nasal passages, leading to the development of crusts or cracks that may bleed Trauma or injury to the nose, such as picking, rubbing, or blowing the nose forcefully Allergic reactions or sinus infections, which can cause inflammation and irritation of the nasal lining High blood pressure or bleeding disorders, which can make blood vessels in the nose more prone to rupture Medications that thin the blood, such as aspirin or anticoagulants, which can increase the risk of bleeding Nasal polyps or tumors, which can cause obstruction and irritation of the nasal passages, leading to bleeding Identifying the underlying cause of a nosebleed is essential for appropriate management and prevention of recurrence. If you experience frequent or severe nosebleeds, it's important to seek medical evaluation for further assessment and treatment. Treatments for Nose Bleeds Treatment for nosebleeds typically involves simple measures that can be performed at home. Here are some common treatments: Sit Up Straight : Sit upright and lean slightly forward to prevent blood from flowing down the throat, which can cause nausea or vomiting. Pinch the Nose : Pinch the soft part of the nose (just below the bridge) with your thumb and index finger for about 10-15 minutes, applying steady pressure. This helps compress the blood vessels and stop the bleeding. Apply Ice : Applying a cold compress or ice pack to the bridge of the nose can help constrict blood vessels and reduce bleeding. Wrap the ice pack in a cloth to prevent direct contact with the skin. Moisturize the Nasal Passages : Use a saline nasal spray or apply petroleum jelly inside the nostrils to moisturize the nasal passages and prevent dryness, which can exacerbate nosebleeds. Avoid Irritants : Avoid picking, rubbing, or blowing your nose forcefully, as this can further irritate the nasal lining and prolong bleeding. Also, avoid hot beverages, alcohol, and smoking, which can dilate blood vessels and increase bleeding. Use a Humidifier : Using a humidifier in your home can help add moisture to the air and prevent dryness, which can contribute to nosebleeds, especially during the winter months. Seek Medical Attention : If home treatments are not effective or if you experience frequent or severe nosebleeds, it's important to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can evaluate the underlying cause of the nosebleeds and provide additional treatment, such as cauterization, nasal packing, or medication to control bleeding. Nose Bleed Services Nasal Packing : Our experienced medical team can provide nasal packing for severe or recurrent nosebleeds. Nasal packing involves inserting a special gauze or sponge material into the nasal cavity to apply pressure and stop the bleeding. This procedure is performed safely and effectively in our clinic. Cauterization : For persistent or recurrent nosebleeds, we offer cauterization as a treatment option. Cauterization involves applying heat or a chemical agent to the blood vessel in the nose to seal it and prevent further bleeding. Our healthcare professionals are skilled in performing this procedure safely and efficiently. Medication Management : In cases where nosebleeds are related to underlying medical conditions or medications, we provide medication management and treatment to address the root cause of the problem. Our healthcare providers can assess your medical history and recommend appropriate medications or adjustments to your current regimen. Follow-up Care : After receiving treatment for a nosebleed, we offer comprehensive follow-up care to monitor your progress and ensure optimal healing. This is how every urgent care should be ran." - Eric J. "Had the ability to make an appointment online but things progressed and I showed up an hour and a half before my appointment slot. They greeted me kindly and addressed me anyways. I was seen within 10-15 minutes. I was out of the door less than 45 minutes and the care I received was direct and efficient. They got to business and didn’t sugarcoat things." - Stephanie M. "This place goes above and beyond. And that's what we need when we are sick. Michelle, my nurse practitioner was amazing. She is very thorough to make sure I was leaving being taken care of and gonna feel better. Also dr. Jeff that is normally there is also great." - Lena E.
